Colonialism

The policy or practice of acquiring full or partial political control over another country, occupying it with settlers, enforcing new laws, religions, and exploiting it economically. LGBTQIA communities were targeted by colonial laws and policies, many of which remain in place today. Of the 68 countries that still criminalise same-sex relationships today, at least 38 of them were once subject to British colonialism.
