Stimming

Stimming is the repetition of physical movements, sounds, words, moving objects, or other repetitive behaviours. While everyone stims to some degree it is especially common in people who are autistic. People may stim to soothe anxiety or to help themselves deal with overstimulation or sensory overload. Autistic people often feel the need to suppress or hide their stimming from others who do not experience the same compulsions but this can be detrimental to their overall wellbeing.
