About the event
We Create Space is continuing to hold spaces for dialogue for our community to connect, reflect, and engage in meaningful conversations. Especially during challenging times.
Harnessing Queer Joy as an Act of Resistance
Joy is an essential component of life. Yet during challenging times and in a capitalist society, it can be difficult to access. With the relentless anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric we’re experiencing globally along with demands on our time & attention, it’s crucial that we move beyond seeing joy as just frivolous fun. Right now, our Queer joy is an act of resistance that must be nurtured, prioritised & protected.
Feel good fun without productivity goals. Community & connection without cost. Play & wellbeing without overwhelm.
This conversation will explore ways in which we can become more emotionally aware of what brings us joy, how to make joy a daily habit individually and in community, and understanding we are worth more than our productivity
We’re joined by two members of the WCS Leadership Collective, both firm advocates for all things joy, for this engaging & timely session…
Ben Pechey (they/them) | Non-binary writer, presenter, content creator, TEDx Speaker LGBTQIA advocate, diversity & inclusion consultant and author
Ki Griffin (he/they) | Multidisciplinary Performer, Creative Facilitator and LGBTQIA+ Advocate
This space for dialogue, over 75 minutes, will provide breakout spaces & an open forum for individuals to share their ideas, seek inspiration and forge collective solidarity with other attendees. Coming together in solidarity, our expectation is for everyone to listen to understand, not debate.
