Pride And Prejudices: Queer Lives And The Law with Keio Yoshida
As part of the We Create Space Awards 2025 programme, we'd love you to join us for a special online launch of Pride And Prejudices - the brand new book by internally acclaimed human rights lawyer Keio Yoshida, one of our Queer Leaders from last year's WCS Awards, which uncovers the ongoing battle for LGBTQ+ rights, how far we’ve come, and how much further we have to go.
The right to life & the right to live life free from discrimination are rights that are codified & legally protected, but — unlike those on women’s rights, disability rights, children’s rights, freedom from torture, & racial discrimination — there is no dedicated & binding treaty or convention in international human rights law with respect to LGBTQ+ rights.
Keio will be in-conversation with Jon-Paul Vicari (he/him), Managing Director for We Create Space and will share their experience of writing the book alongside a reading. We'll also dive into:
the legal problems that still persist and contribute to the violence and discrimination that the international LGBTQ+ population experiences on a daily basis
what more needs to be done to protect LGBTQ+ communities
Keio's hopes for the book & the future of LGBTQ+ rights
We’ve factored in time for questions too so sign up & be part of the conversation!up to come & dive into this important but often neglected topic with us!
