About the event

We Create Space is continuing to hold spaces for dialogue for our community to connect, reflect, and engage in meaningful conversations. Especially during challenging times.

Putting Trans+ Allyship & Solidarity into Action

Following on from a previous session focusing on navigating the anti-Trans UK Supreme Court Ruling and what has followed since, including the EHRC guidance around 'same-sex space', the proposed UK Data Bill amendments - all of which have huge implications for the rights, safety & wellbeing of Trans+ individuals - this space will focus on active allyship & solidarity. To, for & with the Trans+ community.

The session, in collaboration with TransMission PR, will be largely geared towards allies with the aim of creating & sharing plans of action, individual & collective, considered & implemented to challenge what is taking place around us. Everyone is welcome - Trans+ people are very much invited to be part of the conversation & share directly what they need without the pressure to educate.

To kick things off, we'll be joined by three change makers all advocating, fighting & striving for Trans+ equality.

  • Aby Hawker (she/her), Founder of TransMission PR, a consultancy dedicated to working with businesses, brands, communications, marketing & PR professionals to increase trans inclusion though diversity consultancy & education.

  • Jua O'Kane (they/he), Marketing Manager for We Create Space & Communications Director for Trans+ Pride Plymouth

  • Aisha Shaibu-Lenoir (she/her), Director of The Common Press, London's queer & intersectional bookstore, event space & community hub

This space for dialogue, over 75 minutes, will provide breakout spaces & an open forum for individuals to share their ideas, seek inspiration and forge collective solidarity with other attendees. Coming together in solidarity, our expectation is for everyone to listen to understand, not debate.
