    (they/them) River River is a Brighton-based non-binary, neurodivergent creative working on projects as a songwriter, photographer, model and creative director. They use their own lived experience with mental health struggles and self-discovery to create music and media with a message. Their song ‘Paranoia’ , an original piece about gender-based violence, was featured in the UN Women UK 'A Safe Space' Virtual Exhibition. As a Youth Consultant for Mind, they work on a freelance basis, developing a trauma-informed care programme for young women, girls and non-binary people as well as delivering presentations and workshops on the relationship between mental health and physical activity.     Stimming Stimming is the repetition of physical movements, sounds, words, moving objects, or other repetitive behaviours. While everyone stims to some degree it is especially common in people who are autistic. People may stim to soothe anxiety or to help themselves deal with overstimulation or sensory overload. Autistic people often feel the need to suppress or hide their stimming from others who do not experience the same compulsions but this can be detrimental to their overall wellbeing. < Back to Glossary

Since 2011, Max has co-founded and led Proud2Be, a grassroots social enterprise in Devon, where they ran Totnes Pride for a decade, developed peer support groups, events, 1:1 programmes, and delivered inclusion training across sectors - all with a person-centred, trauma-informed approach.
