(she/they) Ashley Ashley's research critiques how power, economics, and politics influence social change, while advocating for imagination and creativity as alternatives to neoliberal market logics. As a full-time professor of communications, Ashley is continuing to develop projects rooted in place-based pedagogy, urbanism, public intellectualism and equity. Her recent project, Home x Work, has been praised for its phenomenological originality. This project does not perceive the city as a blank campus upon which we can experiment, but rather, aims to use collaborative measures to dissect and render visible the various social and material flows that both (re)produce hegemonic power structures and dismantle them. - Ale Rebon Portillo
(he/she/they) Ale Ale was born in a small town in Venezuela to Spanish-Venezuelan parents and raised in the Catholic faith–they identify as trans non-binary. With a diverse background that includes work as an electronic engineer, fashion advisor, customer care assistant, and software testing consultant manager, Ale has always been drawn to activism and advocating for marginalized groups. In Venezuela, Ale's activist work included fighting for the inclusion of people with HIV/AIDS in the social security system. Ale also spent a decade training to become a Catholic priest, doing pastoral work with marginalized groups in Venezuela, Italy, the USA, and Belgium. Currently living in the UK, Ale continues to collaborate with LGBTQ+ groups to promote diversity and inclusion both inside and outside of the workplace. In addition to their activism and advocacy work, Ale has also developed strong leadership skills and a passion for workplace allyship. Ale is committed to promoting intersectionality and combatting LGBTQ+ discrimination in all aspects of life. They are also passionate about exploring the intersections of identity and faith and finding ways to create more inclusive spaces for people of all backgrounds. Model Minority Myth The model minority myth is a stereotype that certain minority groups are more successful than the general population through sheer hard work and determination. This stereotype is most commonly applied to Asian Americans. The idea of a 'model minority' is leveraged to downplay the impact of discrimination on marginalised groups, suggesting that those who are struggling to achieve success or stability simply aren't trying hard enough. The model minority myth flattens large, diverse groups of people into singular entities. not considering their intersectionality. (he/him) Rico Rico is a Trustee at LGBT+ Consortium , UN's UNITE 2030 Youth Delegate and was formerly Director at TransActual UK . He is a Diversity & Inclusion Consultant and a passionate activist, fighting for the rights of LGBTQIA+ and Black people. He is currently studying Sustainable Investing as Harvard Online University . With a background in radio and activism, he started his career as a Diversity Consultant, focusing on anti-racism initiatives. Rico's work as a Director at TransActual UK involved changing UK legislation for trans and non-binary equality, tackling hate crime, and advocating for Black Queer intersectionality. As a Trustee and Treasurer at LGBT+ Consortium , he helps the community with grant funding and advocates for them through chairing panels at the London Assembly and submitting evidence at the Healthcare Committee. Rico is a Channel 4 's Make Me Prime Minister Semi-Finalist, where he was commended for his integrity and compassion by Baroness Sayeeda Warsi. Conversion Therapy Conversion therapy is the pseudoscientific practice of attempting to change an individual's sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression to align with heterosexual and cisgender norms. Conversion therapy is still legal in more than half of the world, and campaigners are still fighting everyday to ensure people are free to express themselves any way they wish, and be attracted to anyone they like. No one should try and be forced to be someone they're not. (she/her) Louise Lou is the co-CEO of Pride Outside CIC, an award winning social enterprise founded with her partner Ellis. Pride Outside’s mission is to create a world where all LGBTQ+ people are safe and well and they do this through their Learning and Wellbeing programmes.
