Our 2023-2024 Community Survey Results and Findings.

Your feedback is vital to us, as it informs everything we do. We always want to ensure we are serving our communities in a way that is both authentic and impactful. Take a look at what we've learnt from our community survey this year!

We would like to thank every single person who took part in our community survey this year. We'll be using this feedback to inform our work throughout this year, making We Create Space bigger and better than ever! As an organisation, we are committed to continuous improvement, and it has been both heart-warming and insightful to hear your feedback. 2023/24 Survey Results:

Who did we survey? Number of respondents: 124. Identities: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Cisgender, Queer, Genderqueer, Non-Binary, Pansexual, Asexual, Ace, Fluid, Agender, Ally. Average Age: 39. Locations of respondents: England, Ireland, US, Canada, Spain, France, Germany, Netherlands, India, Denmark, Mexico, Istanbul, Tanzania, Belgium, Costa Rica, Switzerland, Honduras, Australia, Egypt.
 
What are your biggest concerns going into 2024? Mental Health, Wellbeing and Resilience. Global Trans Rights. Access to Healthcare. Job Security, Finances and Cost of Living. Anti LGBTQ+ Political Agendas and Legislations. Physical Safety.. Transphobia and Racism in the Community. Raising Children and LGBTQ+ Youth. Climate Change. Uncertain Support from Allies. Connection in an Increasingly Disconnected World. Censorship of LGBTQ+ Literature.
"Personal and collective wellbeing, having enough energy to advocate and protest."
"How queer and trans people's existence will be used to influence the general election, and the hate that will come out of that and the impact on mental health that will have."
 
96% of respondents felt we represented their voice and the diversity of intersecting identities across the queer spectrum.
"I think it's hard to see yourself represented regularly when you tick a lot of boxes (I'm queer, Black, non-binary and neurodivergent) but WCS does amazing work to represent different identities in all the events that I see."
 
What value do you currently get from We Create Space?   - Understanding myself better - 37%. Finding purpose and a sense of direction - 26%. Community, networking and meeting new people - 69%. Creativity and/or inspiration - 34%. Accessible tools for personal and professional growth - 28%. Intersectional story-telling and hearing new perspectives - 70%. Leadership development (of self, and others) - 29%. Mental health and Wellbeing support - 19%. More awareness of global LGBTQ+ issues - 62%. Skills and resources for Activism & allyship - 30%.
 
93% felt safe or very safe attending our events.
"I think WCS events are mindful of different identities and experience and try to make sure everybody feels comfortable."
"Sometimes my viewpoints or my privilege are challenged, but that's a good thing. So I think it's natural to not feel 100% calm or relaxed when that's happening, it's worth it of course and in general the community is very compassionate and kind."
 
95% would recommend us to a family member, friend or colleague.
"I actually do recommend you regularly to friends and colleagues!"
 

85% agreed that we offered something that their workplace doesn't.
"My workplace is not very supportive of queer people specifically or of our staff led group's general EDI work - so you are a useful resource and I try to use some of your content as examples."
"Actual in person queer community and events that are actually joyful and interesting!"
"(My) workplace is rather performative when it comes to DEI... You folx are serious about DEI, committed, smart and beautiful."
 
Question: What content, topics or events would you like to see more this year? Anything else you would recommend us to improve?  Answer: Wellbeing and mental health content/support. Intra-community events with allies. More free events and resources. A bigger event - like a festival! In-person workshops, networking and social connection opportunities. Q&As, debates and interactive learning events. A workplace inclusivity assessment tool. Resources exploring allyship and advocacy in hostile environments. Explore climate change and the LGBTQ+ community.
 
More online events (skills development and networking). Smaller group settings to get to know people better. Queer parenting and LGBTQIA+ families. Practical support with coming our and relationships. Networking events by industry or sector. Early stage corporate activism support and guidance. Guidance with how to live authentically and with purpose/meaning. Visibility of less seen identities and hearing from rural queer voices. Queer hikes, retreats and outdoor activities/sports. LGBTQIA+ financial advising and future planning. Global perspectives and events in other  countries. A community platform to connect people digitally and promote events.
