- Harassment
Harassment Harassment is characterised as any unwanted behaviour physical or verbal (or even suggested), that makes a person feel uncomfortable, humiliated, or mentally distressed. It's important that we call out any form of harassment, and create safe spaces for victims to share their experiences to ensure we break the often invisible cycles of harm and abuse that exist within communities and organisations. The battle against harassment also highlights the importance of the role that allies play in making positive change in the wider society around us. - Play
Play Play, or having fun, is often defined as activity done for its own sake, characterized by means rather than ends (the process is more important than any end goal). Free play is a natural part of development, especially critical for children, as it is thought to bolster their social and emotional growth and provide them a means to learn as they explore the world. Playing, especially when unstructured, stimulates mental flexibility and creativity. Research has shown that engaging in play strengthens cognitive skills, like critical thinking and working memory, that are vital to learning. The benefits of playing don’t have to stop when childhood ends. Getting away from familiar locations or repetitive activity can help adults let their imaginations loose. Playing as an adult can also reduce stress, promote optimism, and strengthen one’s ability to take on other perspectives. See: Movement & Sport. < Back to Glossary

- Model Minority Myth
Model Minority Myth The model minority myth is a stereotype that certain minority groups are more successful than the general population through sheer hard work and determination. This stereotype is most commonly applied to Asian Americans. The idea of a 'model minority' is leveraged to downplay the impact of discrimination on marginalised groups, suggesting that those who are struggling to achieve success or stability simply aren't trying hard enough. The model minority myth flattens large, diverse groups of people into singular entities. not considering their intersectionality. It also attempts to breed resentment between different marginalised people by pitting them against each other. < Back to Glossary
